Yellowstone Highlights Tour

  • Grand Teton & Yellowstone

  • (May-Nov) 10-12 Hours

  • Private. Max group size 14

  • This comprehensive tour focuses on the the major highlights of Yellowstone’s Lower Loop route. This can be a tour that is mostly vehicle-based on Yellowstone’s extensive road system and is mild in terms of physical activity. If you are interested in a more active trip, we can emphasize more time spent outside the car walking on Yellowstone’s famed boardwalk systems and short hikes in other areas as well. If this is your first time to Yellowstone and want to see its most iconic features with an expert naturalist as your driver and guide, then come hit the road with us!

  • Your guide will greet you with coffee and a light breakfast at 6 am (earlier or later possible) at your hotel or accommodation. You will then begin the northward drive through Grand Teton en route to Yellowstone. Usually, this amounts to about 2 hours. Vistas are incredible in the morning light and you will see some of the best on this drive. Timing is good to catch wildlife during this twilight time.

Upon passing through Yellowstone’s South Gate, you will immediately be greeted by a change in scenery as we move into the Yellowstone caldera where volcanic geology is on full display. Before too long, you will begin to see the first signs of geothermal activity by way of steaming vents creating vapor trails. We will then arrive to the parks primary geyser basins and most famous feature, Old Faithful. We will spend the next few hours exploring boardwalks in various geyser basins.

We will then move to the Canyon area. Here we will see some of the finest scenery Yellowstone has to offer including giant waterfalls and one extremely unique canyon. Short hike options are plentiful. Many people who haven’t visited Yellowstone are unaware of this area’s landscape, so it can be quite a surprise.

As we travel to the Hayden valley we will be on the lookout for wildlife. This is the primary breeding ground for about a thousand of Yellowstone’s bison. Elk are common, wolves are always a possibility, and grizzlies are as likely as anywhere. Some of Yellowstone’s most specular wildlife viewing experiences happen here.

We complete the Lower Loop tour by driving along Yellowstone lake’s west shore. Enjoy the scenery as we cruise back to Grand Teton and Jackson.
